1800 BC Babylonian clay tablets set out beer recipes.
1600 BC Egyptian medical prescriptions contain beer.

Brewing in Canada

1535 - Jacques Cartier & crew survive from scurvy on spruce beer prepared by First Nation peoples near Stadacona ( present day Quebec City).

1647 - Jesuit Brother Ambroise, " the first brewer in Canada" & Jesuits establish a brewery at Sillery, Quebec.

1668 - Jean Talon built Canada's first commercial brewery at Quebec City.
1786 - John Molson set up in Montreal. John was born in Lincolnshire England. At age 18 he came to Canada (1782). John met an old friend - Thomas Loid who had settled in Montreal & started a small brewery. John Molson became Loid's partner in 1783. In 1786 John used his grandfather's inheitance to buy out Loid.
1829 - Alexander Keith founded his brewery at Halifax, Nova Scotia.
1840 - Thomas Carling opened his Brewing & Malting Company in London, Ontario.
1847 - John Labatt also set up in London, Ontario.
